Richard Brand, MBA
Dad died of cancer. Mom survived cancer. The business of health care is personal for me. My prior company was the best performing biotech IPO for much of 2017. My recent company raised $86 million in Series B.
My project as “bridge” CFO came to an end after a couple of years at the end of 2019. The strategic plan of the prior three years was to validate the science and when its ready for commercialization, recruit a CEO. This was completed late in 2019. As the company plans for scaling its business in the future, it announced my replacement. He was the CFO for Prime and for Singapore when Amazon launched both. First hand knowledge of biotech and liquid biopsy diagnostics. A company’s administrative functions are my responsibility. This frees the other members on management to focus on the important scientific processes. I am also integrally involved in planning for clinical trials and commercialization. On the administrative front, I recruit, train and build accounting staffs to close the books promptly, file rapidly and get clean audits. I have each accounting personnel study a specific function in the company’s operations to become a “partner” for a counterpart in the science or operations departments. This way, we can budget and plan well. For companies that require, I introduce corporate policies. Either I recruit the head of HR or manage that individual to put in place procedures to avoid potential lawsuits. Also, I manage IT to have plans for phishing attacks and cyber security. Additionally, I have implemented ERP software. Anticipating potential questions, I prepare Board packets and deliver them well in advance. This way the Board can focus on how it can make its most valuable contribution – future strategy. In addition to preparing private companies for IPO, my experience includes serving as CFO once the company goes public. Important successes are based on my convincing more research analysts at Wall Street firms to provide research coverage for a company’s stock and my meetings with institutional and individual investors, investment bankers, equity capital markets professionals and stockbrokers. Solid project management skills with track record of delivering within challenging schedules. Superb verbal and written communication. Creative at resolving problems. Adroit at collaboration and inside sales as it's critical to gaining the enthusiastic support of the organization's full capabilities to compete.
